Meet Shannon McCarrick, PhD

What do you value?” is one of the questions I ask almost every client.  Part of my job is to identify and help you remove the barriers that are preventing you from fully living out those values.  I view my role as a therapist not as an expert who will tell you what you need to do but as a coach who will gently guide you toward the answers that are already within you.  In my office, you can expect an approach that focuses on your strengths and harnesses them to improve the quality of your work, relationships, and personal life.

I earned my PhD in clinical psychology from Ohio University.  For the past 5 years, I have seen patients for counseling at a non-profit primary care clinic in Madison, Wisconsin that serves underinsured and underrepresented populations.  This background has helped me recognize the impact that systemic injustice can have on clients’ mental health and well-being.  It has also given me a tremendous breadth of experience in treating not just a wide range of mental health conditions but also the stress associated with living with conditions like diabetes or heart disease.

Outside of work, I enjoy camping, hiking, canoeing, playing tennis with my husband, and reading.  I love to cook, although the outcome of new recipes can, admittedly, be hit or miss.

If you are ready to make changes in your life, I am here to walk that path with you as a compassionate listener and guide.

Dr. McCarrick is licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin.
